Using the Auto-Complete Sentence Feature

Locating the Short Codes You Wish to Use

The auto-complete sentence feature allows you to enter in a short alphanumeric code into your documentation that will cause an entire sentence to populate into the documentation. If you are using the same goals or exercises on a regular basis, this feature will save you time in your note-taking. To locate the list of codes while in your documentation, click on the “Short Code” button at the top of the screen. From this drop-down menu you can view all the codes available for use in your notes.

Global list vs. Customized list

There are pre-made codes in the “Global” tab for both long and short term goals as well as various physical exercises. These are automatically put into every In Touch EMR account. You can also view any customized short codes you have created under the “Customized” tab.

Short Code features

Under each of these tabs you can view the Short Code (the code that will generate the sentence) as well as the Text Value sentences they will populate and what sections of your document they can be used in. You can also search by code or by sentence. In addition, you can view which section of the documentation the codes will work in- They will either be specific to a certain section, or Global. This can be viewed under the Category column.

Using the Codes in your Documentation

When you enter the short codes in descriptive text boxes and hit the tab key on your keyboard, the rest of the sentence will automatically populate.

Example on How to Use the Auto Text Complete

As you can see in this example, I have entered the short code “bahks” into a comment box of my documentation.

It is an exercise, so in this case it was entered into the Flowsheet section.

Make sure that when you are entering in the short code you do not have a space in front.

If the code is entered correctly, it will automatically populate the associated sentence into your documentation.

  1. Please note: Some codes will only work in certain sections. You can view whether a code will work in all sections (Global) or specific sections when you are viewing the code in the “Short Code” menu, under “Category”.

Customizing your Own Auto Complete Codes

If you wish to create your own short codes, you can do so by clicking “Auto-Complete Text” under the Add-Ons option on the left hand menu.

Setting up your custom short codes

You will then be taken to a screen where you can enter in the following information:

1. Short Code: this is the code you will enter to create the sentence.

2. Category: You can choose to have your short codes work throughout your documentation or only in a certain section (Flowsheet for exercise codes, Plan for goals, etc.)

3. Text Value: This is the sentence that will appear in the documentation when you enter in the short code.

4. When you are done, hit Save.

Your sentence should appear under the “Customized” tab of the Short Code box.
